Claudio Castro’s defense celebrated the decision of Minister André Mendonça, of the Federal Supreme Court (STF), who ordered two cases to be archived. Mendonça understood that illegalities committed during two investigations ended up causing nullities in the process.
“The decision given puts an end to the multiple illegalities committed in the case and which were attempted to be masked in the investigation”, he said – to CNN – lawyer Daniel Bialski, who defends the governor. According to him, Mendonça followed STF precedents, putting an end to investigations that were based on “illegal evidence and abusive procedures”.
The two investigations that were the target of Mendonça’s decision are being processed at the Superior Court of Justice and investigate an alleged corruption scheme involving social assistance contracts in Rio de Janeiro.
