Sunak plans to put Britain on a war footing and make it the largest defense power in Europe

British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has promised to put the UK’s defense industry on a war footing.

He also announced his intention to make his country the largest defense power in Europe.

The politician spoke about all this at a press conference with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg in the capital of Poland.

According to him, one of the key “lessons of the war in Ukraine” is that London needs larger reserves of ammunition with the ability for industry to replenish them as quickly as possible.

He made this statement, clarifying the previous statement that there is a plan to increase defense spending – up to 2.5% of national GDP by 2030 (currently – 2.3%).

He clarified: the increase in spending has already started and will increase annually.

Prime Minister’s ambitions

The prime minister promised to invest an additional £75 billion ($93.3 billion) in British defense over the next 6 years.

At the same time, he emphasized that such large financing will be carried out without increasing the debt.

According to the politician, the implementation of this plan will make the UK “the largest defense power in Europe and the second largest in NATO.” And by a wide margin.

Sunak assured that London will invest significantly more in drone development.

Separately, I noted that Britain also plans to create an innovation agency in the field of defense developments.

Sunak previously delivered a record military aid package to Ukraine.
