Sweden has officially decided to join the North Atlantic Alliance.

This decision was made on May 15 at a meeting of the board of the Social Democratic Party of Sweden.

The party statement notes that the country’s authorities will seek a ban on the deployment of permanent military bases and nuclear weapons in Sweden.

The head of the Swedish government, Magdalena Andersson, said that joining the alliance will have a positive impact on the country’s security.

According to the Aftonbladet newspaper, the Swedish authorities have already prepared an application letter for joining NATO; it is planned to send it simultaneously with Finland.

The publication’s sources said that it was initially planned to submit the application on Monday or Tuesday, but the government decided to wait for Finland. Today she also officially decided to join NATO.

Aftonbladet’s interlocutors noted that the document has not yet been signed.
