39views

Swedish Foreign Minister Ann Linde signed an application for her country to join NATO.

The relevant information was published on Twitter – on the official page of the Swedish representation in the North Atlantic Alliance.

According to published information, an official request for Stockholm to join the military-political bloc was signed on the morning of May 17.

Let us recall that at the end of last week the Swedish authorities, represented by the ruling Social Democratic Workers’ Party in the country, announced their desire to apply for membership in the Alliance.

Stockholm emphasized that if Sweden is accepted into NATO, it will oppose the deployment of military bases and nuclear weapons on its territory.

Let us add that Finland also announced plans to join the ranks of the Alliance.

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg assured that he will make efforts to speed up the process of admitting these states.

It is also worth noting the fact that Sweden and Finland for the first time announced their intentions to join the North Atlantic Alliance after the start of the Russian military special operation in Ukraine.
