Switzerland called for the lifting of sanctions that were not adopted by the UN Security Council

192views

One of the main political forces in Switzerland has advocated for the country to lift some of the sanctions it has imposed.

We are talking about those sanctions measures that were not adopted by the United Nations Security Council.

This call was made by the Democratic Union of the Center party, which has a relative majority of seats in the Swiss legislature.

On Thursday, April 11, representatives of this political force submitted a request for a referendum to the highest executive body of Switzerland.

This document contains the same call for the lifting of sanctions, which Switzerland was not obliged to impose.

No non-military coercive measures (sanctions) without an obligation under public international law (UN Security Council), – MIA provides a translated quote from the referendum request.

Party representatives believe that Switzerland should return to strict neutrality and abandon anti-Russian sanctions.

Switzerland and sanctions

In the last two years, Switzerland has joined most of the sanctions imposed by the West against Russia.

It is worth emphasizing that the country took this step, although it is not a member of either the European Union or the North Atlantic Alliance.

Earlier, the opposition won the parliamentary elections in South Korea.
