Syria officially announced the severance of diplomatic relations with Ukraine.
The decision was made on the basis of the principle of reciprocity – a similar step was previously taken by Kyiv.
The SANA agency reports this, citing its source in the Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Syria decided to sever diplomatic relations with Ukraine, based on the principle of reciprocity, in response to the decision of Kyiv, – interlocutor of the MIA Rossiya Segodnya publication.
At the same time, Damascus notes that Kyiv actually broke off relations four years ago, refusing to extend the visas of Syrian diplomats.
This led to the fact that the latter were unable to work in Ukraine, and accordingly, the activities of the embassy were suspended.
The Syrian Foreign Ministry assessed this step by Kyiv as a “hostile position of the Ukrainian authorities”, blindly obeying the policy of the West and the United States towards Damascus.
Let us add that on June 29, 2022, Syria recognized the independence of the DPR and LPR.
The next day, Kyiv announced the severance of diplomatic relations with Damascus, but retained consular relations.
