Around 15,000 Ukrainian refugees have become homeless in the UK.

This data is provided by the British publication The Telegraph, citing official statistics.

The situation with Ukrainian refugees in the UK

As reported, since June 2022, at least every 14th Ukrainian refugee has lost their home after breaking up with their sponsoring families.

It is noted that out of 200,000 thousand refugees, at least 15,000 people have become homeless.

As the publication points out, the UK now has a chronic shortage of housing for refugees, and the British are not obliged to keep them indefinitely.

In the UK, there is now a sponsorship scheme for obtaining asylum for Ukrainians: refugees need to have an invitation from individuals, communities or charitable organizations that guarantee their shelter or payment for housing.

The government pays 350 pounds sterling ($445) per month to Britons hosting refugees.

After the first year of housing refugees, the amount increases to 500 pounds sterling ($635) per month.

The ministers of defense and foreign affairs of the kingdom, Grant Shapps and David Cameron, also provided shelter to the refugees.

The UK also launched a family reunification program for relatives of Ukrainians who lived in the kingdom before the start of the special operation. On February 19, this scheme was canceled.

Initially, both schemes provided for the issuance of visas to Ukrainians for three years. This week London announced their extension for another year and a half.

In mid-December, the UK government reported that about 250,000 visas had been issued to Ukrainian refugees. At the same time, as of December 11, 195,000 British visa holders arrived in the kingdom from Ukraine, and more than 30,000 Ukrainians received permission for long-term stay.

It was previously reported that Britain was launching an intercontinental ballistic missile.
