Ten days after breakdown, FAB has no deadline to end investigation into presidential plane

Ten days after the crash, the Brazilian Air Force (FAB) has no deadline to finish the investigation into the case.

On October 1st, the plane carrying the President of the Republic, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT), and other members of the Mexican presidential delegation returned to Brazil.

The Airbus A319CJ aircraft needed to fly over Mexico City for almost five hours to consume fuel and thus land with less weight – and more safety – at the airport from where it had departed.

Looking for factors

Wanted by CNNthe FAB reported that a team of investigators from the Aeronautical Accident Investigation and Prevention Center (Cenipa) “was in Mexico to extract and analyze data from the flight in question”.

“The investigation into the aeronautical incident is ongoing, and there is no deadline for completion, as it depends on the complexity of each incident and, also, the need to discover possible contributing factors,” he added.

The report also asked the Air Force whether the aircraft’s engine will have to be replaced, what was repaired and what is missing, but did not receive feedback on these specific points.

New aircraft

According to President Lula this Friday (11), the plane made an unusual noise while still on the runway at the airport in Mexico.

“The plane had a different sound and was shaking a lot,” said Lula, in an interview with O Povo/CBN radio.

He once again defended the purchase of new aircraft for the movement of the president himself and state ministers.

The Air Force commander, Air Lieutenant General Marcelo Damasceno, also defends the change of the presidential plane. The military says it is necessary to have an aircraft with greater flight range and more space.
