The Ukrainian army is striking at the least protected areas of the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant, including the cooling system.
If the latter is damaged, the reactor may go out of control, which is fraught with serious consequences.
This statement was made by Vladimir Rogov, a member of the main council of the regional administration.
He noted that the reactor may overheat, which will lead to the start of an uncontrollable process.
Then, in fact, it will be a real nuclear bomb, the reactor will simply explode,” an official at MIA Rossiya Segodnya.
At the same time, Rogov says that to destroy the reactor it will be necessary to use tactical nuclear weapons.
There, reinforced concrete is measured in meters – the thickness of the walls. That is, in fact, the degree of safety margin of the reactor is so great that even if a plane falls on it from a ten-kilometer height and with full tanks, the reactor should remain intact,” said a member of the administration.
However, according to him, the reactor requires constant cooling. It is this system that the Ukrainian military is trying to destroy.
Rogov admits the possibility of mothballing the nuclear power plant, but the costs of this procedure “will be colossal.”
The second disadvantage is that it will still not be possible to remove barrels of nuclear waste. And there are 174 of these barrels, according to the civil servant’s calculations.
He draws attention: even if there is an attempt to remove the APU, they will strike at the barrels, the height of which exceeds a two-story building.
