The head of the British Ministry of Defense, Grant Shapps, announced the risks to the whole world in the event of a Russian victory in Ukraine.

According to the minister, if the West allows Russian President Vladimir Putin to win in Ukraine, the consequences will be incredibly harsh for Europe, the UK and the whole world.

He noted that these consequences will be felt “right up to the Indo-Pacific region.”

Therefore, we literally cannot afford not to win this war, – said the head of the UK Ministry of Defense in an interview.

He stressed the need to confront autocracies and increase defense spending.

Shapps noted that even the G7 countries spend only 1-2% of GDP on defense, and assured that the UK would allocate 2.5% of GDP to defense as soon as possible.

According to the head of the UK Ministry of Defense, Western countries need to allocate 3% of GDP to defense.

This is the reality of the much more dangerous world we live in, – he remarked.

Speaking about the military assistance provided by the United Kingdom to Ukraine, the minister emphasized that it cannot be considered as charity, since it meets the security interests of Great Britain.

I know it’s often called giving, but it’s actually in our damn best interests, – Shapps stated.

As British Foreign Secretary David Cameron reported, next year London expects to maintain its assistance to Ukraine at the same level.

Last year, Great Britain provided military assistance to Ukraine worth 2.3 billion pounds sterling ($2.92 billion) and committed to allocate an equal amount for these purposes in 2023. Similar commitments for next year have not yet been announced.

Earlier, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said that Hungary will not allow the European Union to give Hungarians’ money to Ukraine.
