UK Defense Secretary Grant Shapps called on the international community not to forget about Ukraine amid the escalation in the Middle East.

The British Minister of Defense made this statement in an interview with the American publication Politico during a visit to Washington.

What Shapps called for

The head of the UK Ministry of Defense emphasized the importance of continuing support for Ukraine.

According to him, the international community can concentrate on the Middle East and Ukraine at the same time.

Shapps noted that he arrived in the United States to coordinate work in these areas.

Let’s not forget about Ukraine, – quotes the head of the British defense department.

When asked whether the British Armed Forces planned to participate in the Middle East conflict if it escalated, Shapps answered in the negative.

There are definitely no plans for this now, – said the head of the UK Ministry of Defense.

He noted that Britain has strengthened its presence in various regions of the Middle East, sending marine corps, ships and aircraft.

The main reason is containment. And let no one look at this as an opportunity to interfere in the conflict and increase disagreement“, the minister added.

Escalation in the Middle East

On October 7, fighters from the military wing of the Palestinian Hamas movement, which announced the Al-Aqsa Flood operation against Israel, entered Israeli territory after large-scale shelling from the Gaza Strip.

Israel responded by launching Operation Iron Swords, organizing a complete blockade of Gaza and beginning to strike it. The Israeli Defense Forces also carry out strikes on certain areas of Lebanon and Syria.

According to the latest information from the Palestinian Ministry of Health, Israeli strikes on Gaza killed 3,478 people and injured 12,000.

In the West Bank, where clashes are also taking place, 62 people were killed and more than 1,300 were injured.

On the Israeli side, about 1,400 people were killed and more than 4,200 were injured.
