The Czech Republic is not going to pay for Russian gas in the national currency of the Russian Federation.

The country plans to continue making payments in the single European currency.

The corresponding statement was made by the representative of the Czech government Josef Sikela on May 2.

Also, the Minister of Industry and Trade of the Czech Republic emphasized that the country may stop purchasing Russian oil this year.

The Czech Republic intends to continue paying for gas in euros, especially since we purchase most of it on Western European exchanges, – MIA quotes Joseph Sikela as saying.

The head of the Czech Ministry of Industry and Trade recalled: there is only one company in the country that purchases gas directly from Russia.

We are talking about the company ČEZ, which, according to Sikela, plans to continue paying for natural resources in EU currency.

Regarding the refusal of Russian oil, the minister made the following statement: The Czech Republic will take this step subject to the existence of natural resource reserves in the European Union, as well as the implementation of plans for joint oil purchases.

In these cases, Sikela said, the Czech Republic would “share the pain” with other European countries and support new anti-Russian sanctions.
