On Monday, July 19, 2021, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine officially announced their intention to join the European Union.

The corresponding joint declaration in Batumi was signed by the presidents of three countries: Salome Zurabishvili, Maya Sandu and Vladimir Zelensky.

As the press service of the President of Ukraine said, members of the “Associated Trio” assumed obligations to strengthen trilateral cooperation as part of work on integration with the EU.

In addition, the values ​​common to the EU countries were declared: democracy, respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms, the rule of law.

According to the text of the declaration, joining the EU is a goal uniting Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine.

European integration has no alternative for our countries, and no third party will be able to influence this sovereign choice,” the document notes.

It also says that the countries have already made significant progress in relations with Brussels, and the decision to join the EU is supported by the “strong will of our peoples.”

“We are united in our determination to work together to ensure recognition of the European perspective for Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine, which will pave the way for future EU membership of our three states,” the declaration states.
