The EC explained why they removed words about the huge losses of the Ukrainian Armed Forces from von der Leyen’s statement
The European Commission confirmed that it had removed information about 100,000 dead Ukrainian soldiers from the statement of the head of the organization, Ursula von der Leyen.
The corresponding statement was published on Twitter by the representative of the European Commission, Dana Spinant.
What happened
This morning the EC released a written statement and video message from von der Leyen.
It said that since the beginning of the Russian special operation in Ukraine, more than 100,000 Ukrainian military personnel and over 20,000 civilians have been killed.
Approximately two hours after publication, the above information was removed from the statement of the head of the EC.
Why did the EC delete the information?
An EC spokeswoman confirmed the removal of the information, expressing gratitude to those who pointed out the inaccuracy of the figures in the statement.
As Spinant explained, the estimate from external sources used in the statement was supposed to refer to losses as a whole: both killed and wounded.
And it was supposed to show the cruelty of Russia, – added the EC representative.
