The end of the era of Benjamin Netanyahu. The name of the new Prime Minister of Israel has been announced

0views

For the first time in 12 years, the Israeli government is not headed by Benjamin Netanyahu.

The leader of the Yamina party, Naftali Bennett, became the country’s Prime Minister, news agencies report.

On Sunday, June 13, the politician took the oath during a ceremony that took place in the Knesset, the Israeli parliament.

Israel’s new cabinet was approved yesterday. 60 parliamentarians voted for the proposed composition of the government. 59 deputies opposed it.

Results of parliamentary elections

The new government was formed after the Knesset elections, which took place on March 23.

Benjamin Netanyahu’s Likud party took first place, winning 30 seats in parliament.

However, the political force failed to form its own government: eight other parties united into a coalition.

The Yamina party was among those who signed the coalition agreement. It was its leader Naftali Bennett who became the new head of the Israeli government.

The era of Benjamin Netanyahu

The Likud party leader has been Israel’s prime minister since 2009. Thus, he left the post 12 years after he took it.

It is worth noting that Netanyahu was the head of the Israeli government from 1996 to 1999.

In 2005-2009, the politician led the opposition in the Israeli parliament. Perhaps Netanyahu will return to this post again.
