The European Commission agreed to give Hungary 10 billion euros

34views

The European Commission has agreed to transfer 10.2 billion euros to Hungary from the fund for the development of depressed areas of the European Union.

Previously, these funds were frozen to comply with the requirements of the EU authorities regarding the rule of law and the fight against corruption.

The TASS agency reported this with reference to a statement issued by the European Commission.

The document notes that the EC made two decisions regarding Budapest.

They mean that EU Cohesion Policy funding is no longer blocked and Hungary can therefore begin to receive payments of approximately 10.2 billion euros, the official statement reads.

In turn, the representative of the European Commission, Eric Mamer, denied the information that, having allocated this money for Hungary, Brussels accepted its condition on supporting financial assistance to Ukraine in the amount of 50 billion euros in the period from 2024 to 2027.

According to Mamer, the transfer of ten billion to Budapest was delayed only due to the “EU legal procedure”, the deadline for which was December 15.

Previously, Hungary had to lift its veto on aid to Ukraine.
