The European Commissioner named the reason why Ukraine cannot now join NATO

70views

Despite the fact that Kyiv has applied to join NATO, Ukraine will not currently be able to become a member of the North Atlantic Alliance.

Thierry Breton, European Commissioner for the Internal Market of the European Union, announced this on the BFM TV channel.

He gave a reason why this was not possible. The fact is that military operations are ongoing on the territory of the country.

Zelensky asked for Ukraine’s admission to NATO, but, as is known, the question of joining the Alliance cannot be raised during military operations on the territory of the country, – Breton MIA “Russia Today”.

He added that hostilities are currently taking place in Ukraine, and it is quite difficult to predict when they will end.

Let us recall that on the last day of September, Vladimir Zelensky announced that Kyiv had submitted an application to join NATO on an accelerated basis.

Assistant to the US President for National Security Jake Sullivan called such actions untimely.

In turn, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said that the decision to admit new countries to the Alliance should be made by all members of the military-political bloc.
