The European Parliament accuses Marine Le Pen of misappropriating EU money

3views

The French prosecutor’s office issued a statement regarding Emmannuel Macron’s rival in the presidential election.

We are talking about the leader of the National Rally, Marine Le Pen.

According to the watchdog, it received a report from the European Anti-Fraud Office (OLAF) in mid-March.

It follows from the document that Ms. Le Pen illegally misappropriated EU budget funds – Kommersant.

Not only her

In addition to the candidate for the post of head of state, her father Jean-Marie Le Pen, her common-law husband Louis Alliot and former vice-president of the party Bruno Galnisch appear in the investigation.

These people, according to the investigation, embezzled a total of about 617,000 euros from European Parliament funds.

Moreover, approximately half of this amount was embezzled by Marin’s father, while she herself is suspected of embezzling 137,000 euros.

The investigation demanded that the named citizens reimburse the funds in the amount that they “mastered.”

It is noted that they pocketed this money in the period from 2004 to 2017, when they were all members of the European Parliament.

Where did the money go?

The report notes that the funds were spent on the needs of the National Association, including payment for hotel stays and various events.

However, the investigation concluded that none of the defendants spent the money for personal purposes.

By the way, all four deny the charges, declaring their innocence.

Lawyer Marine Le Pen said he was alarmed because, according to him, the events mentioned in the report happened more than 10 years ago, and the document itself was made public during the presidential elections.
