The European Union refused to finance the construction of a wall on the border of Belarus and Lithuania

0views

The European Union will not allocate funds to the Republic of Lithuania for the construction of a fence on the border with the Republic of Belarus.

However, the international association is ready to help Lithuania in another way.

Representatives of the European Commission, the highest executive body of the EU, made a corresponding statement.

It is emphasized that “the EC does not finance fences.” However, structure can provide other assistance.

The European Commission supports the border management process in Lithuania both operationally and financially, – MIA quotes the words of EC representatives.

Thus, the body can help the Baltic country with resolving the situation on the Lithuanian-Belarusian border and suppressing attempts by “illegal immigrants” to illegally cross it.

The situation on the Lithuanian-Belarusian border

Lithuania reports a recent influx of illegal migrants.

Lithuanian border guards say that more than 1,500 people who arrived from Belarus ended up illegally in the country this year.

Compared to the number of “illegal immigrants” in 2020, this year’s figure is 18.5 times higher.

The Lithuanian Cabinet of Ministers regards what is happening as an emergency situation and has advocated the construction of a fence on the Lithuanian-Belarusian border.
