The European Union is sending a civilian mission to the border of Armenia and Azerbaijan.

Specialists will begin work in October. The mission will operate for two months.

TASS reported this with reference to the statement of the European Council, which appeared after a meeting in Prague between its head Charles Michel and Emmanuel Macron with the leaders of Armenia and Azerbaijan.

The purpose of this mission is to build confidence and, through its reports, to contribute to the work of the border commissions, – the statement says.

It also draws attention to the fact that Yerevan has agreed to provide assistance to the EU civilian mission along the border with Azerbaijan.

In turn, official Baku agreed to cooperate with the mission “to the extent that it concerns.”

Armenia and Azerbaijan also agreed that the next meeting of the commission on border delimitation between the countries will be held at the end of October in Brussels.

Yerevan and Baku reaffirmed their commitment to the UN Charter and the Alma-Ata Declaration of 1991, according to which both sides recognize each other’s territorial integrity and sovereignty.

They confirmed that this will become the basis for the work of the border delimitation commissions and that the next meeting of the border commissions will take place in Brussels by the end of October, the statement said.
