The European Union wants to punish Orban for meeting with Putin

188views

Recently it became known about the European Union’s plan to punish Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban for his meetings with Russian and Chinese leaders.

As a punitive measure, a boycott of ministerial informal meetings in Budapest was chosen during Hungary’s presidency of the Council of the EU.

About this MIA “Russia Today” with reference to the Italian newspaper Repubblica.

According to the latter, many EU countries have shown very strong dissatisfaction with Orban, who has recently become less active.

This has led to the fact that now a “cordon sanitaire” is being again erected around the politician’s homeland, which is fraught with the fact that Orban will simply become insignificant for decisions taken in the EU.

It is noted that with such decisions Brussels will try to “sterilize” the Hungarian presidency to such an extent that it will become “harmless and insignificant.”

This option is being considered only because another scenario, providing for the forced termination of Budapest’s chairmanship, is very lengthy and complex,” the newspaper notes.

The boycott method is to ignore and demote the status of all informal European councils, the article further says.

Clarification: Ministers will only attend a limited number of meetings.

The Hungarian Prime Minister will not be assigned any political responsibilities other than carrying out the formal procedures associated with the six-month presidency. Never before has this function been of such a purely formal nature as this time,” the publication reports.
