On this day, – an excerpt from the statement of the military-political bloc MIA “Russia Today”, – “Albania officially opened the Kucova airbase.”

It is noted that this facility represents “a modern center for future NATO air operations.”

The base is located approximately 80 kilometers south of the country’s capital, Tirana.

It is located in the Berat district on the site of the old military airfield in the city of Kucova (from 1950 to 1990 it was called Stalin).

The construction of the base, opened yesterday, has been carried out over the past several years – since 2019.

The base is NATO’s largest project in Albania, with the Alliance investing 50 million euros in modernization.

The facility is expected to serve Albania and provide logistics support, air operations and NATO exercises.
