Ukraine has begun forming the first foreign special-purpose unit, which will consist entirely of Polish citizens.

This was announced at a meeting held on Wednesday, February 15, in Kyiv, as reported by the Polish publication Onet.

It is assumed that the new combat formation will be called the “Polish Volunteer Legion”.

The author of the material published in Onet claims that similar units, entirely composed of foreigners, are already operating in Ukraine.

The journalist noted that a German unit is also being formed.

According to him, the Polish unit will not become part of the international Legion of Territorial Defense of Ukraine, in which Poles fought together with volunteers from other countries.

This will be a special unit reporting directly to the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine,” the article says.

And it is further noted: those who wish to become members of the Polish Legion will be tested by specialists from Poland and Ukraine.

Who will be accepted into the Polish Legion?

Key requirements for joining a new formation: military training and no problems with alcohol or drugs.

It is planned to create a recruitment center in Poland. The idea was previously agreed upon with official Warsaw.

And the base of the Polish Legion, according to the journalist, will be located in the Kyiv region, while its headquarters is already operating “in secrecy.”

The issuance of military IDs to the Poles and, thus, the final formalization of the unit could take place very quickly, even within a week or two, a source in the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense told Onet.
