The former head of the Lithuanian Foreign Ministry threatened to neutralize Kaliningrad

Former Lithuanian Foreign Minister Linas Linkevicius, now serving as ambassador to Sweden, threatened to neutralize Kaliningrad against the backdrop of Sweden’s accession to the North Atlantic Alliance.

The diplomat published a corresponding statement on his page on the social network X.

Sweden’s entry into NATO

Yesterday the Hungarian parliament ratified the agreement on Sweden’s accession to NATO.

Hungary was the last in the alliance to approve Sweden’s application. A bill on Sweden’s accession to NATO was submitted by the Hungarian government to parliament in the summer of 2022, but parliamentarians shelved it due to unfriendly statements from Stockholm.

On March 27 last year, the Hungarian parliament approved Finland’s accession to NATO, but postponed consideration of Sweden’s application.

Both northern countries have applied to join NATO in May 2022.

How Linkevicius threatened Russia

The former head of the Lithuanian Foreign Ministry wrote on the social network X that after Sweden joined NATO, the Baltic Sea became internal to the alliance.

If Russia dares to challenge NATO, Kaliningrad will be the first to be “neutralized”the diplomat threatened.

Last November, Deputy Foreign Minister of the Russian Federation Alexander Grushko said that the Baltic Sea will never become an internal NATO sea, and all such statements are just figures of speech of lightweight politicians.

This is how Grushko commented on the threat of Latvian President Edgars Rinkevics to close the Baltic Sea to Russian ships if Russia’s involvement in the damage to the Balticconnector gas pipeline is confirmed.

As a result of the investigation, it was established that the gas pipeline was damaged by the Newnew Polar Bear, flying the Hong Kong flag.

Senator from Kaliningrad Alexander Shenderyuk-Zhidkov emphasized that the Kaliningrad region of the Russian Federation is reliably protected by the forces of the Baltic Fleet, and any threat to the region is a threat to a nuclear power.

It was previously reported that the Houthis have undersea cables linking Asia with Europe.
