The Guardian: Warsaw has threatened to remove EC head von der Leyen from her post

0views

The British edition of The Guardian writes that Warsaw has threatened to remove Ursula von der Leyen from the post of chair of the European Commission because of the EC’s refusal to allocate 35 billion euros to Poland to combat the coronavirus pandemic.

Von der Leyen’s resignation was threatened by the Secretary General of Poland’s ruling Law and Justice party, Krzysztof Sobolewski.

What’s happening

The EU requires Warsaw to comply with rule of law procedures before releasing loans and grants to it.

The Polish leadership considers this a direct violation of sovereignty.

Law and Justice leader Jaroslaw Kaczynski previously said that Warsaw has no reason to fulfill its obligations to the EU.

What did Warsaw threaten?

According to information, the Secretary General of Law and Justice Sobolevsky said that Warsaw will pull out all the weapons from its arsenal and answer tit for tat if the EU leadership tries to push Poland to the wall.

According to him, if the EC does not allocate funds, Poland will sue Brussels and also veto EU initiatives.

And will create a coalition to remove the head of the EC von der Leyen and her board of commissioners,” Sobolevsky threatened.
