The Hague does not want to implement anti-Russian sanctions of the European Union

0views

The famous city of The Hague (Netherlands) has asked the EU authorities for a temporary exemption from the implementation of anti-Russian sanctions.

This is stated in a letter from city council member Saskia Breines, available to Reuters.

Let us remind you that EU sanctions imply the termination by governments and other government bodies of EU countries of existing contracts with companies from Russia.

Restrictive measures require the termination of all such agreements by October 10, 2022.

But The Hague is opposed because it is currently attempting to find an alternative gas supplier to Gazprom.

Over the past two months, the city’s efforts have not produced the results it desired.

We will ask for an exception to our current agreement until January 1, 2023, to guarantee security of supplies and facilitate negotiations – Braines MIA Rossiya Segodnya.

By the way, the letter from the city council member is addressed to the local municipality. In addition to the famous court, The Hague also houses the government and parliament of the Netherlands.

The author of the appeal hopes that the petition will be granted, since, as she writes, her city has fulfilled the conditions of the tender, but without positive results.

The official also draws attention to the fact that the new agreement, which comes into force on January 1 next year, will cost the city much more than the current contract with Gazprom.
