Austrian Defense Minister Claudia Tanner said Europe needs to prepare for power outages in the near future.

According to the minister, the likelihood of blackouts in the countries of the European Union is very high.

The head of the Austrian defense department expressed this opinion on December 27 in an interview with the German publication Die Welt, reports.

Why the EU needs to prepare for blackouts

Tanner believes that Austria and other EU countries need to prepare for hacker attacks on energy systems, behind which Russian intelligence services will stand.

According to her, the likelihood of blackouts in some parts of the EU in the coming months is very high.

The question is not if they will come, but when they will come, – said the minister.
