The head of the British Ministry of Defense ruled out the supply of fighter jets to Ukraine in the near future

The UK does not intend to transfer fighter jets to Ukraine in the near future.

This was announced on February 9 by the head of the UK Ministry of Armor Ben Wallace.

Why London refuses to hand over fighter jets

Commenting in an interview on Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky’s calls for the transfer of fighter jets, Wallace noted that “the situation is not urgent.”

According to him, Great Britain knows what Ukraine needs and is happy to help it in various ways.

The minister explained that instead of delivering aircraft, which would take several months, the UK authorities will focus on the transfer of other air defense assets, such as drones and long-range missiles.

And it won’t take the months it would take to transfer fighters, – said the head of the British defense department, noting that he is obliged, first of all, to provide fighters to Great Britain itself and the countries of the North Atlantic Alliance.

Wallace also commented on the call of ex-head of the British government Boris Johnson to transfer one hundred Eurofighter Typhoon fighters to Ukraine, calling this idea unrealistic.

If I gave away all the fighters and tanks, it would mean that we are taking them away from ourselves and from Estonia, while we have many obligations, – the minister explained.

He noted that Italy, Germany and Spain are involved in the production of Typhoons and that their consent would be required.

Let us recall that yesterday, during a visit to the UK, Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky called for the provision of combat aircraft to the country.
The head of the British government, Rishi Sunak, instructed Wallace to find out which aircraft could be transferred.
