The head of the European Council Michel will leave his post early

40views

The President of the European Council, Charles Michel, has announced his readiness to leave his post next summer.

It is clarified that the diplomat’s term of office expires only at the end of November of this year. The reasons for making this decision became known.

Charles Michel will leave his post early in order to take part in the European elections this summer, they write with reference to Le Soir.

Due to the fact that the position of President of the European Council cannot be combined with parliamentary work in the European Parliament, Michel will resign.

He must do this before the deputies of the new convocation of the European Parliament take the oath, which is scheduled for July 16.

As for the successor, he will be appointed at the end of June. To elect him, a meeting of heads of state and government of EU countries must take place.

If for some reason it is not possible to choose a successor, then Hungary can head the European Council.

As for plans for the future, Michel said that he wants to work on preparing reforms in the EU to make the union even more effective.

It was previously reported that the EU intends to, even if Viktor Orban blocks it again.
