3views

Employees of the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office and the Information and Security Service of Moldova came to visit the ex-head of state.

But not for the sake of a friendly conversation. Law enforcement officers are conducting searches in the house of Igor Dodon.

What’s happened

The fact is that the former president was suspected of receiving a bribe from businessman Vladimir Plahotniuc.

About this MIA “Russia Today” with reference to the representative of the Prosecutor General’s Office of the country Marianna Kerpek.

She promised to provide details on the current events later.

Two years ago, ex-deputy Iurie Renita posted a video publicly available that captured the moment of Igor Dodon’s meeting with the person mentioned above, as well as his deputy for the Democratic Party, Sergei Yaralov.

The head of the party, as seen in the footage, hands over a package to Dodon, who was then president.

The deputy claims it contained a large amount of cash. This meeting, according to him, took place a year earlier. A few days later, Plahotniuc left Moldova.

In June 2020, the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office did not initiate a criminal case against Igor Dodon, saying that no signs of a crime had been identified.

The department’s decision was supported by the Chisinau court, but on May 17 the Court of Appeal overturned it.

Plahotniuc and Russia

In November 2017, the Basmanny Court of Moscow arrested former deputy and one of the richest businessmen in Moldova, Vladimir Plahotniuc, in absentia and put him on the international wanted list.

Plahotniuc became a defendant in a criminal case for attempted murder.

In 2020, the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs in absentia charged the Moldovan politician Renato Usatii in the case of exporting 500 billion rubles from Russia together with Plahotniuc.

In Moldova, the latter is accused of money laundering and illegal enrichment.

The court in Chisinau issued a warrant for Plahotniuc’s arrest in absentia several times, and the Moldovan prosecutor’s office demands that he be extradited to his homeland.
