The head of the Hungarian government, Viktor Orban, said that he does not see the possibility of admitting Ukraine to the European Union.

The Hungarian Prime Minister made this statement on the air of the Kossuth radio station.

Why Orban does not see Ukraine in the European Union

The Hungarian Prime Minister noted that he understands Ukraine’s desire to join the EU.

However, Orban noted, it is now impossible to even determine the size of Ukraine.

Accepting a country without knowing its parameters would be an unprecedented step, – stated the head of the Hungarian government on air.

Orban added that he is not sure whether Budapest will be able to approve the start of negotiations between Kiev and Brussels on the issue of Ukraine’s admission to the EU.

According to the Hungarian Prime Minister, very difficult questions will have to be answered before deciding to start negotiations.

The Hungarian authorities have repeatedly stated that they will not support Ukraine’s accession to the EU until Kiev restores the rights of the Hungarian minority in Transcarpathia, in particular, the right to use the Hungarian language.

The European Commission, in its recommendations to grant Ukraine candidate status for membership in the community, set a condition that the country fulfill seven requirements.

The most comprehensive of them is the implementation of judicial reform. It provides for the continuation of the fight against corruption, reform of the Constitutional Court and completion of changes in the High Qualification Commission of Judges and the Supreme Council of Justice.
