The head of the Hungarian government, Viktor Orban, said that the country will not support the provision of additional funds from the European Union budget to Ukraine without convincing justification for such actions.

The Hungarian Prime Minister made this statement on October 26 before the start of the EU summit in Brussels.

Why Hungary will block the allocation of funds to Ukraine

Orbán said that Hungary is against adjusting the EU budget to support Ukraine and implement a new migration strategy.

We do not want to give Ukraine more money until we see a clear justification for this proposal, – said the head of the Hungarian government.

A day earlier, Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjártó had already warned that the country would not support adjustments to the EU budget because it did not agree with Brussels’ approach to issues of support for Ukraine, salaries of European officials and migration.

On June 20, the European Commission called on the community countries to make additional contributions to the budget for 2024-2027 to approve an assistance program for Ukraine worth 50 billion euros over 4 years and military assistance worth 20 billion euros. EU countries met this proposal without enthusiasm.

The main source of funds for the EU budget are contributions from member countries. The EU budget is also replenished from revenues from carbon trading and several other environmental fees.
