The idea of the European Commission to establish an international specialized tribunal for Ukraine did not find unanimous support from the foreign ministers of the European Union countries at a recent meeting in Brussels.
This information was announced by the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, on December 14 at the human rights forum in Brussels.

What Borrell said
According to the head of European diplomacy, there is a debate in the EU about whether anything other than the International Criminal Court is needed to fight impunity in Ukraine.
According to Borrell, at a recent meeting of the foreign ministers of the community countries, he and the European Commission presented a proposal to establish an international special tribunal for Ukraine.
We discussed it, however, without a concrete result, – said the head of the EU foreign policy service, noting that the discussion was interesting, but without a specific answer.
According to the head of EU diplomacy, the creation of an alternative structure to the ICC is possible and the EU needs to make more efforts to combat impunity in Ukraine.
Borrell did not announce further plans in this direction.
What does the European Commission propose?
Let us recall that at the end of November the EC proposed the establishment of an international special tribunal for Ukraine under the auspices of the United Nations.
EC President Ursula von der Leyen said the EC is ready to work with international partners to advance this initiative.
ICC prosecutor in The Hague Karim Khan said the EU’s plans to establish a special tribunal undermined a similar investigation being carried out by the ICC.
