A targeted counter-terrorist operation of the Israeli Army (IDF) has started in the east of the city of Rafah, located in the Gaza Strip.

It is noted that its goal is the destruction of “Hamas terrorists and terrorist infrastructure in certain areas in the east of Rafah.”

During the operation, according to the Israeli military, about two dozen Palestinian radicals were eliminated.

Before this, IDF representatives called on residents of the eastern neighborhoods of Rafah to evacuate.

Employees of international organizations were also asked to temporarily leave the specified location.

It is known that Tel Aviv took control of the Palestinian part of the Rafah checkpoint on the border of the Gaza Strip with Egypt, and therefore the supply of humanitarian aid was suspended.

The IDF says the operation began after receiving intelligence that Hamas was using the checkpoint area for its own purposes.

And they recalled: last Sunday, militants of the named movement from that area fired mortars at the Kerem Shalom checkpoint, killing four IDF soldiers.

Earlier, the Israeli army approached Rafah.
