In his speech, he expressed gratitude to his mother, the queen, who recently died.

The royal also promised to serve for the benefit of the United Kingdom just as Elizabeth II did.

Speech by the new king on Sky News.

Throughout her life, Her Majesty the Queen, my beloved mother, has been an inspiration and example to me and my entire family,” said Charles III.

He thanked her for her love and devotion, understanding and ability to see the best qualities in people.

I renew this promise of lifelong service before everyone today,” the king said.

He also said that in Britain the role and responsibilities of the monarchy remain the same.

Like the Queen herself, with such unwavering devotion, I now also pledge myself to uphold constitutional principles for the rest of the time that God will give me, Charles III promised.
