The three largest party benches in the Senate should only define who they will support in the succession to Rodrigo Pacheco (PSD-MG) as president of the House after , according to the CNN. Officially, the internal election for the Senate command for the 2025/2026 biennium will be at the beginning of February next year.

Some factors influence this perspective of taking the issue calmly in the PSD, with 15 senators; in PL, the main opposition party with 14 senators; and MDB, with 10 senators.

Involved in cities

Firstly, the assessment of senators heard by the CNN It is necessary to wait for the October elections to pass, as several senators are directly involved in the campaigns of allies in the electoral bases. Including waiting for those who took leave to resume as holders.

Another point is that the election results will give a better perspective of which parties will be stronger in the municipalist scenario and which negotiations were successful, thinking about alliances for the 2026 election, when two-thirds of the Senate will be renewed.

Other names

Although senator Davi Alcolumbre (União Brasil-AM) is currently seen as the clear favorite to succeed Pacheco, other names are seeking to become viable in the dispute – or, at least, have not yet been ruled out.

The PSD has not yet dropped the hammer and there are names within the bench that could become candidates, such as Otto Alencar (BA) and (MA), for example.

In opposition, senators Tereza Cristina (PP-MS) and Rogério Marinho (PL-RN) are remembered.

Table Space

It remains to be seen whether any of them would have a viable candidacy against Alcolumbre. Especially because one concern of the acronyms is to take over a candidate, lose and then not have space on the Senate Board of Directors or in the committees, as initially happened with the PL last year when facing Rodrigo Pacheco, without success.

At the moment, the only party in the Senate to publicly support a pre-candidate was , in favor of Alcolumbre.

The bench of three senators reported that the decision was taken “based on the proven parliamentary, management and leadership capacity of senator Davi Alcolumbre, already duly demonstrated in his terms as president of the House and as president of the Constitution and Justice Commission” .

“In the view of the PDT, Senator Alcolumbre has the necessary conditions to continue the work of President Rodrigo Pacheco in maintaining the autonomy of the Senate, preserving democratic stability and harmony between the Powers”, he added, in a note released on Tuesday (3).
