On Wednesday, June 5, 2024, the largest NATO exercise in the Baltic Sea started in Lithuania.

They involve about 4,000 sailors on more than 50 warships from the countries of the North Atlantic Alliance.

In total, about 9,000 military personnel are taking part in the Baltops-2024 naval exercises.

The TASS agency reported this with reference to a statement by the Commander of the Lithuanian Navy, Admiral Giedrius Premeneckas.

According to him, about three dozen ships are moored in the Klaipeda port.

Several more, depending on the tasks assigned to them, will remain outside the port,” the admiral noted.

In addition to warships from 21 NATO countries, 45 military aircraft are participating in the exercise.

According to information from the commander of the Lithuanian Navy, the current Alliance exercises have become the largest in the Baltic for the entire history of such maneuvers.

As for the duration of the exercises, they should end on June 22.

Previously, the name of the presidential elections in Lithuania was announced.
