The government of the island state of the Maldives, popular with tourists from all over the world, has made a decision that will upset the Israelis.

It concerns the ban on entry into the country with Israeli passports.

According to the Sun tabloid, the restrictions by the authorities of this republic in South Asia are being launched due to the international community’s outrage over Tel Aviv’s attacks on the Gaza Strip.

Minister’s Statement

In turn, “HERE NEWS”, having read the publication of the mentioned publication, clarifies: the decision to introduce a ban was announced by the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Maldives, Ali Ihusan.

The Cabinet of Ministers decided today to amend the legislation necessary to ban entry to the Maldives on Israeli passports as soon as possible, he said.

And he added: the decision was made at a government meeting that took place earlier that day.

According to the minister, in order to speed up the implementation of the decision, the government created a special committee.

The new structure included the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Prosecutor General, and the ministers of foreign affairs, economy and tourism.

Special Envoy

In addition, it was decided to appoint a special presidential envoy to study areas in which Palestine requires support from the Maldives.

In particular, the envoy will oversee the collection of funds for assistance to the Palestinians, which they intend to provide through the UN Near East Agency.

Also within his competence is the organization and holding of a national rally under the slogan “Maldivians in solidarity with Palestine.”

In addition, the functionary is also responsible for negotiations with other Muslim countries to speed up the resolution of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

Deputy initiative

It is worth noting that in the Islamic Maldives, the decision to ban entry into the country on Israeli passports was made after the amendment to the immigration law was presented.

Its initiator is member of the opposition Maldivian Democratic Party Mikail Ahmed Nasim.

He insists on introducing a complete ban on entry into the republic for Israeli citizens.

Previously, the Slovenian government accepted to recognize Palestine.
