The migration crisis continues in Lithuania: more than 3.5 thousand illegal immigrants are detained

The Republic of Lithuania continues to face an influx of illegal migrants.

According to data as of August 1, over the past 24 hours, border guards of the Baltic country detained 144 people who illegally crossed the border.

The total number of illegal immigrants detained in Lithuania in 2021 has reached 3,545.

The relevant information is published on the website of the Lithuanian Department of Statistics.

The vast majority of migrants who found themselves illegally in Lithuania this year introduced themselves as Iraqi citizens (2,299 people).

Almost 200 migrants said they were from Congo. 129 illegal immigrants said they were Cameroonian citizens.

Judging by the map presented by the Lithuanian Department of Statistics, the vast majority of illegal immigrants detained in the country crossed the Lithuanian-Belarusian border.

The daily increase in detained illegal migrants on Saturday was one of the highest ever.

However, the record for June 27 remains unchanged. On that day, Lithuanian border guards detained 171 people who found themselves on the territory of the European Union without following the rules of arrival.
