Earlier, Moldovan telegram channels reported that from November last year to the present, military equipment worth about 2 million lei (about 105 thousand dollars) – helmets, body armor, military uniforms, shoes, duffel bags, etc. – disappeared from the second motorized infantry brigade in Chisinau. .
Most of the missing ammunition was from a shipment provided to Moldova by Washington.
According to the press service of the Ministry of Defense of Moldova, the department and representatives of the army command conducted an investigation, the materials were transferred to law enforcement agencies, and a criminal case was opened regarding the theft of military property.
The United States has provided military assistance to Moldova annually under the Foreign Military Financing program since 2015.
Last September, as part of the program to reform the Moldovan army, which started in 2018, the US government transferred military equipment to Chisinau for participation in international peacekeeping operations worth $5 million.
