European journalists learned the name of the new NATO Secretary General.

According to them, the post will be taken by the current acting head of the Dutch government, Mark Rutte.

This information was shared with the general public by the Netherlands Broadcasting Corporation (NOS), citing unnamed sources.

The only competitor in the struggle for the right to lead the North Atlantic Alliance was the President of Romania, Klaus Iohannis.

However, as the TASS news agency has read the NOS publication, the latter intends to soon withdraw his candidacy.

Prior to this, the current NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, at a press conference with the head of the US State Department, Antony Blinken, confirmed information that the military-political bloc is close to agreeing on the candidacy of a new leader.

Speaking about Mark Rutte, he described him with the epithet “strong candidate”.

Stoltenberg noted that the issue became close to a solution after Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban announced his readiness to support Rutte’s candidacy.

Let us add that the decision on the appointment of a new NATO Secretary General is expected to be made at the organization’s summit in July (to be held in Washington).

The powers of the current head of the Alliance, Jens Stoltenberg, expire on October 1, 2024.

Previously, the media reported that NATO had the opportunity to bring its nuclear weapons to a state of combat readiness.
