The path to authoritarianism. Mayor Klitschko filed a serious accusation against President Zelensky
Kiev Mayor Vitaliy Klitschko made a very serious accusation against the President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky.
The mayor believes that the leader of his people is leading the country towards authoritarianism.
According to Klitschko, the actions of the head of state have already contributed to the fact that there are practically no independent institutions of power left in Ukraine.
On the way to authoritarianism
The city mayor complained about the following fact: since the beginning of the Russian special operation, there has not been a single meeting with Zelensky, not even a single telephone conversation.
And this despite the fact that in Kyiv the city hall is separated from the presidential administration by only a few hundred meters,” Klitschko calculated.
Taking into account the above facts, the capital’s mayor came to the conclusion that “Ukraine is on the path to authoritarianism,” TASS agency.
Now there is only one independent institution left, but it is under enormous pressure: local self-government,” laments the chief boss in Kyiv.
Pressure on mayors
He further says that in some large cities of the country his colleagues were removed from office by a “simple court decision.”
And in the first months of the confrontation with Russia, Klitschko informs, Ukraine was without leadership, chaos reigned in the country.
Then, the mayor brings to the attention of the general public, the mayors of the country’s cities “took on a key role as leaders of public opinion.”
But in the presidential administration, he is convinced, mayors are considered a manifestation of atavism, regarding them as an obstacle to the centralization of power in the state.
Klitschko ended his statement with the message that he unshakably believes in the following: “it is almost impossible to simply turn Ukraine into an authoritarian state.”
