What the Pentagon said about sending troops to the Middle East

Pentagon chief Lloyd Austin has ordered 2,000 troops to be put on high alert for possible deployment to the Middle East in response to a Hamas attack on Israel, Singh said.

At present, no decisions have been made on the transfer of any forces, – the Pentagon deputy press secretary said.

According to her, the secretary will continue to assess the state of American forces and maintain close contact with allies.

A Pentagon spokeswoman also said Austin approved an extension to the deployment of the Gerald Ford carrier strike group in the eastern Mediterranean.

Earlier, the American television channel Fox News, citing sources, reported that Austin ordered American troops to be ready to be sent to the Middle East to support Israel.

According to the head of the Pentagon, it is not yet known which units of the US Armed Forces will be involved and under what circumstances.

The American edition of The Wall Street Journal reported that the Pentagon selected about 2,000 military personnel to prepare for a possible transfer to the Middle East. The publication noted that the Pentagon’s decision indicates that the United States is preparing to support Israel in the event of a ground operation in the Gaza Strip.
