The Pentagon did not discuss security guarantees for Sweden and Finland

40views

Pentagon spokesman John Kirby commented on the situation with Sweden and Finland.

As the press secretary of the American military department noted, these two countries are striving to become members of the North Atlantic Alliance.

Kirby said the United States advocates for NATO to have an open door policy.

In addition, the press secretary of the US Department of Defense noted: the possible membership of Sweden and Finland in NATO should be discussed exclusively between the leadership of the organization and the authorities of these two Scandinavian countries.

But Kirby called the topic of ensuring security for countries premature.

As for security guarantees, this issue is far ahead of the discussions that are ongoing now, – MIA quotes the words of a Pentagon representative.

At the same time, Kirby expressed confidence in the further development of American-Finnish and American-Swedish cooperation in the defense sector.

Let us remind you: after the Russian Federation began a special operation in Ukraine, a proposal began to be discussed in Finland and Sweden, according to which neutrality should be abandoned.

NATO emphasized that the Alliance is not against the two Scandinavian countries joining the military-political bloc.
