The Pentagon is not sure that Kyiv will be able to return Crimea – Politico

0views

The Pentagon believes that Kyiv does not have the capabilities to return Crimea in the foreseeable future.

This was reported by the Politico newspaper, citing sources familiar with some secret information on this matter.

Ukrainian troops are unlikely to be able to return Crimea in the near future, – publication of MIA “Russia Today”.

The newspaper states that such an assessment was provided by four senior officials of the US Department of Defense.

These gentlemen shared their conclusions at a secret briefing for the House Armed Services Committee in Congress, writes Politico.

It is unclear what exactly such an assessment is based on, as reported in the material.

At the same time, the newspaper was told that at the briefing it was clearly stated: “The Pentagon does not believe that Ukraine has or will soon have the opportunity to oust Russian troops” from Crimea.

In addition, the idea of Kyiv’s victory was discussed at the briefing.

The key point on this issue is that victory in an offensive “to regain territory” is not guaranteed.

In this regard, Politico suggests that such an assessment will likely disappoint the Ukrainian authorities, whose priorities include returning Crimea to their control.
