The Pope urged not to turn away, but to look into the eyes of refugees

During his address to believers in St. Peter’s Square on the occasion of the Feast of the Immaculate Conception of the Virgin Mary, Pope Francis urged not to turn away from refugees, but to look into their eyes.

The head of the Roman Catholic Church called for a response to the suffering of migrants.

The Pontiff noted that society has no right to turn away from migrants, and also recalled that during his visit to Cyprus and Greece he was able to look into the eyes of refugees.

Please look into the eyes of those who find themselves on the sidelines. Let us allow them to touch our hearts with their suffering in order to respond to indifference,” TASS quotes the pontiff’s statement.

It is also reported that Pope Francis traditionally began the day by laying a wreath of white roses at the statue of Our Lady.

During the pandemic, the tradition was performed alone, and parishioners were not allowed into the square.

The media, citing the press service of the Holy See, report that the Pope also offered a prayer for the healing of all the sick and deliverance from the suffering of peoples who had to endure wars and destruction.
