On the night of Tuesday to Wednesday (July 6 to 7), Haitian President Jovenel Moïse was shot dead in his own residence.
The identities of the attackers have not yet been established. It is known that they committed the murder at approximately one in the morning.
Western media reported this with reference to the official statement of the Haitian government.
According to local authorities, at the time indicated above, a group of unknown persons attacked the private residence of the head of state.
Some of them spoke Spanish. Criminals fatally wounded the country’s president with firearms.
Condemning this heinous, inhumane and barbaric act, the government calls on the population to remain calm, the statement said.
It also notes that the government assures compatriots that the security situation in the republic is controlled by the police and army.
We add that Jovenel Moïse was elected president of Haiti in November 2016, and officially took office in February of the following year.
