On his first day as head of state, the new President of Hungary, Tamas Szuyok, signed the ratification of the agreement on Sweden’s accession to the North Atlantic Alliance.

The press service of the President of Hungary informed about this on March 5.

It is noted that this was Shuyok’s first decision as head of state.

The Hungarian parliament approved this agreement on February 26.

Sweden’s path to NATO

Sweden and Finland have applied to join NATO in May 2022.

In June of the same year, at the NATO summit in Madrid, the countries were officially invited to the alliance, and on July 5, the signing of accession protocols took place.

Finland was admitted to NATO on April 4 last year. Sweden’s entry was delayed due to Hungary and Turkey.

At the end of January, Türkiye gave the go-ahead, and at the end of February, the Swedish application was ratified by the Hungarian parliament.

The ceremony to raise the Swedish flag at NATO headquarters, scheduled for March 1, was postponed due to the need for the new Hungarian president to sign the application.

He was elected by parliament on the same day the Swedish bid was ratified.

It was previously reported that Donald Trump would be elected to the US Supreme Court in Colorado.
