Polish President Andrzej Duda compared Ukraine to a drowning man dragging a rescuer to the bottom.

The Polish head of state made this statement at a briefing after his speech at the General Assembly of the United Nations.

How Duda compared Ukraine to a drowning man

Commenting on Poland’s introduction of a unilateral ban on the import of Ukrainian grain, Duda noted that a drowning person is extremely dangerous, as he can be dragged along with him.

He might just drown the rescuer, – said the President of Poland.

According to him, Ukraine is in a very difficult situation, so it is grabbing at everything it can.

Duda stressed that Poland must act in its own interests and protect itself, because if a drowning person drowns Poland, he will not receive help.

The Polish leader noted that there are business circles that have interests in Ukraine and want to sell Ukrainian grain at the lowest price and as quickly as possible.

We must protect ourselves from this – summed up the head of the Polish state.

In April, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Bulgaria and Hungary banned imports of grain and other agricultural products from Ukraine.

They later lifted the ban in exchange for the European Commission’s decision to impose first until June 5 and then until September 15 an embargo on imports of wheat, rapeseed, sunflower seeds and corn from Ukraine.

President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky stated that he is categorically against further restrictions on grain supplies, that the decision of the European Commission is a violation of the association agreement and free market conditions, and that the country is ready to defend its rights in court.

On September 15, the EC did not extend the embargo, but obliged Ukraine to introduce export control measures.

After this, Poland, Slovakia and Hungary announced the introduction of a unilateral ban on the import of Ukrainian grain.

Ukraine responded by filing lawsuits with the World Trade Organization. The head of the Ministry of Economy of Ukraine, Taras Kachka, threatened to introduce retaliatory sanctions and a ban on the import of Polish vegetables and fruits.

Poland, Hungary and Slovakia responded by saying that they would boycott meetings of the coordination platform.
