Orpo said that the situation on the Finnish-Russian border threatens the national security of Finland: hundreds of refugees are arriving at the border without documents to enter the European Union.

According to the Finnish Prime Minister, if the flow of refugees does not stop, the Finnish government will consider completely closing the border.

Finnish Interior Minister Marie Rantanen also announced the possibility of completely closing the border.

At the second stage, it is quite possible that the eastern border will be completely closed, – the minister said in an interview.

Let us remind you that on the night of November 18, Finland closed four checkpoints on the eastern border – Niirala, Imatra, Vaalimaa and Nuijamaa – until February 18 next year.

Yesterday, the Finnish government decided to close three of the remaining four border crossings from November 24 to December 23. The northernmost checkpoint, Raya-Jooseppi, will remain open.

The head of the Norwegian government, Jonas Gahr Støre, said yesterday that the country could follow the example of Finland and close the only checkpoint on the border with Russia.
